FREE CROCHET PATTERN, Granny Square Outdoor Cocoon Shrug Cardigan Sweater, Small to Plus size

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn (With 3 rows dc border: S: 1400 yds; 
                               M: 1500 yds; L: 1600 yds; Plus size: 1700 yds)
5.5 mm crochet hook (OR any size yarn, and any size hook of your choice.)
Yarn needle

INSTRUCTIONS;
1.  Chain 5, slip stitch to join and form a ring.

2.  Chain 2, make 2 double crochet in the ring, *chain 1, 3 double 
     crochet in the ring, repeat from * for 2 more times,
chain 1, slip stitch to join in the top of the chain 2.

3.  Turn, slip stitch into the first chain 1 space, chain 2, 2 double 
      crochet,  in the same chain 1 space make: chain 1, 3 double 
      crochet(corner cluster formed).  
*Chain 1, in the next chain 1 space make: 3 double crochet, 
chain 1, 3 double crochet (corner cluster).
Repeat from * two more times, chain 1, slip stitch to join in the 
top of the first chain 2.

4.  Turn, slip stitch in the next chain 1 space.
Chain 2, make 2 double crochet in the same space.  
*Chain 1, in the chain 1 space of the next corner stitch, make a 
corner stitch: 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc,
chain 1, make 3 double crochet in the next chain 1 space.  
Repeat from * around, ending with a chain 1, and slip stitch to 
join in the top of the first chain 2.

5.  EVERY REMAINING ROW:
Turn, slip stitch into the next chain 1 space, chain 2, 2 double 
crochet in the same space.
In each chain 1 space up to the next corner, make 3 double 
crochet stitches, chain 1 between each 3 double crochet
cluster.  In the chain 1 stitch of the corner make: 3 double 
crochet, chain 1, 3 double crochet, then chain 1 and
begin to make 3 double crochet in each chain 1 space up to the 
next corner, and repeat across the row.

6.  Work as many rows as needed to form a square that measures:
Small: 36 inches
Medium: 40 inches
Large: 46 inches
Plus size: 50 inches.


Border:  *Chain 2, double crochet in each stitch around, making 3 double crochet in each of the 4 corner stitches to ease around, at the end of the row, slip stitch to join in the top of the 
first chain 2.  
Repeat from * to make a total of 3 or 4 rows, and fasten off.


7.  Fold the work in half, and sew the side seams. 




OPTIONAL:  Add fringe.Yardage for fringe is not included in the above amounts.
