This Easy Crochet Poncho works up very quickly, using a one row repeat, and Softee Chunky Bernat yarn! (or use 2 strands of ww yarn, or in the UK, 4 strands of dk yarn).

Works top down, add collar when finished.

Gauge: 2 dc long and 1 dc high = 1 sq. Inch

1.  Small - Medium: chain 50

Medium - Large: Chain 52

Large - XL: Chain 54

XL - 2XL: Chain 56

3XL- 4XL: Chain 60

5XL: Chain 62

 

Slip stitch to join being careful not to twist the chain.

 

 

2. Small - Medium: 

Chain 2, (takes the place of a dc), 2 dc in the

same stitch, chain 1, 2 dc in the same space 

(center front or back) 

dc in the next 24 stitches,

in the next stitch make 

center front or back: 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc.

double crochet in the next 24 stitches,

slip stitch to join in the top of the chain 2.

 

Medium - Large:

Chain 2, (takes the place of a dc), 2 dc in the

same stitch, chain 1, 2 dc in the same space 

(center front or back) dc in the next 25 stitches,

In the next stitch make center front or back: 

2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc.

Double crochet in the next 25 stitches, 

slip stitch to join in the top of the chain 2.

 

Large - XL:

Chain 2, (takes the place of a dc), 2 dc in the

same stitch, chain 1, 2 dc in the same space 

(center front or back) dc in the next 26 stitches,

In the next stitch make center front or back: 

2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc.

Double crochet in the next 26 stitches, 

slip stitch to join in the top of the chain 2.

 

XL - 2XL:

Chain 2, (takes the place of a dc), 2 dc in the

same stitch, chain 1, 2 dc in the same space 

(center front or back) dc in the next 27 stitches,

In the next stitch make center front or back: 

2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc.

Double crochet in the next 27 stitches, 

slip stitch to join in the top of the chain 2.

 

3XL- 4XL:

Chain 2, (takes the place of a dc), 2 dc in the

same stitch, chain 1, 2 dc in the same space 

(center front or back) dc in the next 28 stitches,

In the next stitch make center front or back: 

2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc.

Double crochet in the next 28 stitches, 

slip stitch to join in the top of the chain 2.

 

5XL:

Chain 2, (takes the place of a dc), 2 dc in the

same stitch, chain 1, 2 dc in the same space 

(center front or back) dc in the next 30 stitches,

In the next stitch make center front or back: 

2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc.

Double crochet in the next 30 stitches, 

slip stitch to join in the top of the chain 2.

 

3. ALL SIZES:

For the remainder of the poncho, repeat the following:

Chain 2, working in the back side of the stitch only, 

double crochet in every stitch around, (including the 

stitches in the center clusters);

in both of the chain 1 spaces in the center front and 

center back work: 2 dc, ch1, 2 dc.

At the end of the row, slip stitch to join in the top of the 

chain 2.

 

Work as many rows as desired for the length of the 

poncho.  Fasten off, weave yarn ends into

the finished work.

 

COLLAR: 

1. Attach yarn in any stitch.

*Chain 2, double crochet in each stitch around, slip 

stitch to join.

Repeat from * for 1 more row.

 

2. Chain 2, *front post double crochet in the next stitch, 

   double crochet in the next stitch, repeat

from * around, slip stitch to join.

3.  Repeat step 1 and 2 until the collar is the height 

    desired.

Worsted weight yarn, worked 2 strands

7 mm knitting needles (worked flat)

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.  Foot section, worked back to front. Gauge 2.25 stitches = 1 inch

Cast on: (with 7 mm needles and 2 strands of ww yarn.

    Adult S-M:  8 - 9 inch circumference (measured around the 

                                          foot). 18 stitches

M-L:  9 - 10 inch circumference (measured around the foot)                                                   20 stitches

L-XL: 10 - 11 inch circumference (measured around the                                                           foot) 22-24 stitches

  

2.  Work in stockinette stitch (k 1 row, p 1 row) until the length of the 

      foot is obtained:


 

3.  Knit 2 stitches together across the row.

4.  Purl across the row.

5.  Knit 2 stitches together across, casting off each stitch 

     after it is worked, leave approx. 12 inch

long yarn end.

6.  Thread the yarn end into a needle, weave through the 

    end of the slipper, pull to gather and close

the end, fold the work in half, and sew across the top of 

the foot, approx. 1/2 the total distance.

    Then sew the heel end closed.

LEG SECTION: Worked bottom up.  CAST ON:

Adult S: 26 stitches

Adult M: 28 stitches

Adult L: 32 stitches

Adult XL: 36 stitches

 

Work in ribbing (k2p2) for 4 rows.

Work in stockinette stitch for as many rows as desired.

Work in ribbing for as many row as desired. (8 rows in this sample).

Cast off, leave approx. 18 inch long yarn end, thread into a needle, sew into a tube.

Sew the leg section to the foot section, being careful not to sew too tightly.

 5-12 YRS: 60 stitches ;   

12-16 YRS: 66 stitches;   

ADULT: 70 stitches

2.  Work stockinette stitch for 4 rows. (k1row, p1row).  (Bottom will 

      curl slightly automatically).

3.  Change to gray yarn, work stockinette stitch for 4 rows. 

     (k1row, p1row).

4.  Change to blue yarn, work garter stitch for 4 rows. (k every row).

5.  Change to gray yarn, work stockinette stitch for 4 rows.
