1.  Gauge: 2 sc and 2 rows = 1 sq. Inch.

Main color: Work a foundtion chain that is as long as needed from front to back.

Make 2 sections, sew together down the center back.

Worked in the moss stitch.

Approx: 5 foot tall person: 60 inches long (approx. 120 stitches)

        5 ft. 4 “ tall: 64 inches long (approx. 128 - 130 stitches)

        5 ft. 8 “ tall: 76 inches long (approx. 152 - 156 stitches)

**NOTE: Plus sizes will need a longer foundation chain, best to check on body.

2.  Single crochet in the 3rd stitch from the hook,

*chain 1, skip the next stitch, single crochet in the next stitch,

repeat from * across the row.

3.  Change colors as desired. (This sample changed to black.)

Chain 3, single crochet in the next chain 1 space, chain 1,

repeat from * across the row.

4.  Repeat step 3 until the rectangle is 1/2 the chest measurement plus an

 extra 2 inches.

(Example: 36 inch chest: rectangle should be 20 inches wide. (18 + 2)

Place side by side, and sew the back seam.  (NOTE: do not sew 1/2 the length of

the rectangles, as the width across the shoulders should be allowed for the front

section; unless you wish the front to be shorter than the back. Therefore the seam

should be shorter than 1/2 the total length of the rectangle. Usually 5 - 12 inches,

depending on the size being made.)

(Example: 60 inch long rectangle, back seam should be approx. 25 inches long).

           (1/2 of 60 = 30 - 5 = 25)

Fringe: Cut yarn 11 inches long, attach along the

bottom with a larkshead knot.

If desired, connect the sides by sewing buttons through both

front and back layers.

COLOR SEQUENCE IN THIS SAMPLE:

FOUNDATION ROW + 1 ROW OFF WHITE

1 ROW BLACK

4 ROWS OFF WHITE

1 ROW TAN

1 ROW OFF WHITE

1 ROW BLACK

1 ROW OFF WHITE

1 ROW TAN

REMAINING ROWS OFF WHITE

TROUBLE SHOOTING:

If the ruana turns out too short, work some rows across the bottom, or add a longer fringe.

Let me introduce the February 2022 issue of I Like Crochet. Need a gift for Valentine’s day?

Their Cupid Picks section has something for everyone – a personal favorite is the puppy coin purse (it stands up on its own).

Add some brightness to your closet with the pieces in the Color Me Happy section. Featuring two striped cardigans, a functional tote with a bonus inner bag and a cozy hat-and-scarf set, these pieces are guaranteed to ring in the new year on a positive note.

Did I mention there’s a brand new coat pattern in this issue? The Misty Pocket Coat is similar to those shackets that were all the rage last season. It’s classic and simple style boasts just enough decorative detail to make it stand out from the rest.

Plus, don’t miss the incredible Midnight Garden Afghan. It features bright flowers (large and small) against a dark-blue background and finished with a pom pom trim, this bohemian-inspired piece is begging to made for your living room.
