Free Crochet Pattern - Granny Square Christmas Washcloth or dishcloth

  SET OF 9 CROCHET HOOKS:
 3 mm -12 mm crochet hook:






 
MATERIALS:
100% cotton worsted 85 yards
5 mm crochet hook
Yarn needle


INSTRUCTIONS:
VIDEO DEMO HERE: 

1.  Chain 5, slip stitch to join and form a ring.

2.  Chain 2, make 2 double crochet in the ring, 
     *chain 1, 3 double  crochet in the ring, 
      repeat from * for 2 more times, slip stitch to join in the top of 
      the first chain 2. (Chain 1 spaces will be corners.)

3.  Chain 2, *double crochet in each stitch up to the next chain 1 
     space, in the chain 1 space make:
    2 double crochet, chain 1, 2 double crochet.
   Repeat from *  around the row, slip stitch to join in the top
of the chain 2.

4.  Repeat step 3 until the washcloth is as large as desired, in this 
    design a total of 6 rows.

5.  Attach a contrasting color, or continue with the same color, 
     repeat step 3.

6.  Picot border:  Chain 3, single crochet in the next stitch, repeat    
     from* around, fasten off.  
     Weave all yarn ends into the finished work.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn worked 2 strands, or chunky yarn
6, 7, or 8 mm straight knitting needles.
Yarn needle

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.  Any size yarn and any size needle can be used for this 
     headband, but the width will change.
     Cast on 12 stitches.

2.  *Knit 4 stitches, purl 4 stitches, knit 4 stitches. *Repeat from * 
      for 3 more rows.

3.  *Purl 4 stitches, knit 4 stitches, purl 4 stitches, repeat from * for 
      3 more rows.

4.  Repeat step 2 and 3 until the rectangle is long enough to wrap 
     around the head, then cast off with a long yarn end.
 Thread the yarn end into a needle, and sew the 2 ends together.    Decorate as desired.

1.  Chain 5, slip stitch to join and form a ring.

2.  *Chain 5, single crochet in the ring, repeat from * to make 5 or 6 loops.
    At the end of the row, slip stitch in the bottom of the first chain 5 loop.

3.  In each loop make:
single crochet, chain 4, double crochet, chain 2, double crochet , chain 2, double crochet , 
chain 4,  single crochet.

4.  In each petal around:
4 single crochet in the chain 4 space;
2 single crochet in each chain 2 space;
4 single crochet in the last chain 4 space;
Slip stitch in the space between the 2 single crochet between each petal.

Fasten off.
For added detail in the center,  work step 1 and 2 above, and fasten off.  Attach in the center of
the flower.
Sew buttons or beads in the center of the flower.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn, (Adult size: 150 yards for the cowl, and 150 yards for the hat)
6.5 mm crochet hook
Yarn needle

INSTRUCTIONS:  

1. For the cowl or the hat:
     2 - 5 yrs: chain 18
     5 - 12 yrs: chain 18
     Adult: chain 22
     Adult men: (larger head) chain 26 for the hat

2. Double crochet in the 4th stitch from the hook, and each stitch 
    of the chain.

3. Work across the row, working alternate 4 front post and 4 back 
    post double crochet. (Note: For the first 3 row
sequence only,  only 2 rows of front and back post will be 
required, as the first row of double crochet
stitches will be the first row of the first basket weave detail.)

4.  Work 3 rows of the same front post in front post, and back post 
     in back post, then change the pattern
so that you are working the opposite, see the video demo for a 
visual demonstration:

5.  Repeat step 3 and 4:
     5 - 12 years: until the work measures approx. 20 inches
     12 - 16 yrs: until the work measures approx. 22 inches
     Adult: until the work measures 22 - 24 inches.
   
6.  Bring the foundation row and the last row worked together, and 
    slip stitch the seam to form a tube.
    Fasten off.
FOR THE COWL: Weave yarn ends into the finished work. 
Pullover cowl is finished.
FOR THE HAT: Thread the yarn end into a yarn needle, weave 
through the last row of stitches, pull to gather up
and close the top of the hat, weave yarn ends into the finished 
work.

INSTRUCTIONS: See the video demo here:


1.  Chain 22, double crochet in the 4th stitch from the hook and 
     each stitch of the chain.

2.  Chain 2 and turn, back post double crochet in the first 3   
     stitches, (dc takes the place of the 1st stitch),
     front post double crochet in the next 4 stitches, back post     
     double crochet in the next 4 stitches, repeat from * across
 the row. (Don’t forget to work in the turning chain of the 
 previous row, as that takes the place of the first stitch.)

3.  Chain 2 and turn, front post double crochet in the first 3   
     stitches, (dc takes the place of the 1st stitch),
     back post double crochet in the next 4 stitches, front post     
     double crochet in the next 4 stitches, repeat from * across
 the row.

4.  Repeat steps 2, 3, 2.

5.  2 sequences of basketweave have been completed (total of 6 
     rows).  Now repeat the sequence until the scarf is the desired 
     length. (Every 3rd row will be the opposite of the previous 3

7. Add fringe if desired.
