MATERIALS:

Worsted weight yarn (Red Heart Super Saver used in this design.)

5.5 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

 

INSTRUCTIONS:  Works bottom up.

Make 1 front and 1 back (identical).

1. Measure your largest part, (hips or chest),    

work a foundation chain in multiples of 4 +1,

which is 1/2 the measurement.

(For example:

40 inch chest = foundation chain approx. 20 inches)

 

NOTE:  Work the foundation chain loosely so the body will not billow out.

2.  BOTTOM BAND: Double crochet in the 2nd stitch from the hook, and each stitch across the

row. Chain 2 and turn, alternate across the row: front post double crochet in

the next stitch, double crochet in the next stitch.

 

3.  *Chain 2 and turn, double crochet in each stitch across the row.

4.  CHANGE COLOR FOR A BOBBLE ROW (optional): 

Chain 1 and turn. Single crochet in the same stitch as the chain 1, and in the next 2 stitches,

      Bobble stitch in the next stitch: *yarn over the hook, insert into the stitch, pull yarn through,  

yarn over the hook, pull yarn through 2 loops, repeat from * 2

more times, pull yarn through all 4 loops on the hook.

      *Single crochet in the next 3 stitches, bobble stitch in the next stitch, repeat from * across the

row.

5.   CHANGE BACK TO MAIN COLOR: *Chain 2, double crochet in each stitch across the row.

     Repeat from * for 3 more rows.

6.  Repeat step 4 and 5 until the work is as long as the desired length of the top.

7.  TOP BAND: Chain 2, double crochet in each stitch

across the row.

Chain 2, alternate front post dc, dc in the next stitch

across the row, fasten off.

 

Make 2, sew together at the sides leaving openings for the arms,

then , and across the shoulders, leaving an opening large

enough to pass over the head.

8.  ARM BANDS:  Attach yarn in an underarm stitch, chain 2,

double crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join.

 

Chain 2, alternate front post dc in the next stitch, double

crochet in the next stitch around, slip stitch to join, fasten off.
