1. Work with a 9 mm crochet hook, and 1 strand of worsted weight yarn.
Adult small: Chain 31, (check to see if it reaches across the body, from underarm to
underarm, if not, add as many stitches as needed).
CUSTOM SIZES: work a foundation chain that reaches from underarm to underarm;
or at the largest part across the body. (Number divisible by 3 plus one extra stitch.)
double crochet in the 4th stitch from the hook.
*Skip the next 2 stitches, V stitch in the next stitch: (V stitch = double crochet,
chain 1, double crochet.) Repeat from * across the row, ending with a V stitch in the last

chain 3 (takes the place of the 1st double crochet and ch 1), double crochet in the same
In each remaining chain 1 space across the row, make a V stitch.
3. Repeat step 2 until the work is as long as desired for the length of the vest.
4. Front section:
Chain 1 and turn, slip stitch into the first chain 1 space, Chain 3, double crochet in
the same stitch. Make a V stitch in each chain 1 space of the next 3 V stitches.
(Leave the remainder of the row unworked.)
5. Chain 1 and turn, slip stitch into the first chain 1 space, chain 3, double crochet in
the same space. Make a V stitch in each remaining chain 1 space across the row.
6. Repeat step 5 for 3 more rows.
7. Begin increasing for the center front: Chain 3 and turn, double crochet in the
same stitch, (the first dc of the row), make a V stitch in each chain 1 space across
the row. (Increased by one V stitch across the row.)
8. Chain 1 and turn, slip stitch into the 1st chain 1 space, chain 3, double crochet in the
same space. Make a V stitch in each remaining chain 1 space across the row.
9. Repeat step 7 and 8 one more time .
10. Repeat step 2 until the front of the vest is the correct length.
(A total of 15 rows from shoulder to hem for Adult small in this sample).
Fasten off with a long yarn end.
11. Attach yarn on the opposite outside corner at the shoulder of the vest.
Repeat steps 4 to 10 to form the opposite front side of the vest.
Fasten off with a long yarn end.
Use the yarn ends to slip stitch the sides of the vest closed,(3 rows high for this sample),
or sew the seam with a yarn needle.
