1. FOOT SECTION:  Worked flat, heel to toe.

Foot size chart at end of pattern.

Cast on: Work with 2 strands of ww yarn or 1 strand Bernat Softee Chunky yarn

6-10 yrs: Cast on 18 stitches

2.  Work in stockinette stitch (k 1 row, p 1 row) for:

       6-10 yrs: 18 rows

3.  Toe end: Work in garter stitch (k every row) for:

6-10 yrs: 3 rows, then knit 2 stitches together across the row, casting off each stitch after it is worked. Leave a long yarn end.

Thread the yarn end into a yarn needle, weave through the last row of stitches, pull to gather the toe end of the slipper, then sew across the top of the foot (1/2 the distance across).

Then sew the heel end closed. (Slippers can be used as short slippers.)

CUFF  SECTION:

(Can be worked on straight or circular needles.)

(NOTE: if you are experienced at knitting and using circular needles, pick up the following number of stitches along the opening of the slipper bottom.)

Cast on:  BLUE YARN

6 - 10 yrs: 18 stitches

Work in ribbing (k1p1) across the row with blue yarn.

Work in ribbing for 2 rows with black yarn.

Work 2 rows of ribbing in blue yarn, then cast off.

Sew into a circle, use the seam at the back of the slipper, or if sewing a button on the side, position

the seam on the side and cover it with a button.

Sew the cuff onto the slipper bottom.

Weave all yarn ends into the finished work.

(Watch this video on how to sew the mattress stitch, even

though it is a crochet demo, the principle

also applies to knitting for an invisible seam: https://youtu.be/5WyPH9Tnvbc )
