100% cotton worsted yarn (90 yds (or 10 -11 yds contrasting color, 79 - 80 yds main color)

5.5 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

1.  Chain 26.

2.  Single crochet in the 2nd stitch from the hook, and each stitch of 

      the chain ending with a sc.

3.  Chain 2 and turn (counts as a dc),* single crochet in the next   

      stitch, double crochet in the next stitch,

repeat from * across the row ending with a dc in the last stitch.

4.  Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in the same stitch,

 *double crochet in the next stitch, single crochet in the next 

 stitch, repeat from * across the row.

5.  Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the work is the desired size.  

Fasten off, weave yarn ends into the finished work.

(This sample: 2 rows main color, 2 rows contrasting color, 20 rows 

main color, 2 rows contrasting color,

2 rows main color.)
