FREE CROCHET PATTERN, Summer Shrug, quick and easy #1166

1166-TOP DOWN LIGHTWEIGHT SHRUG

MATERIALS: Worsted weight yarn ( Age 6 to Adult S: 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver,400 yds; L: 2 skeins Red Heart Super Saver; XL= 3 skeins Red Heart Super Saver (1100 yds) 9 mm crochet hook, (US M or N) Yarn needle

AGE 6 - 8: Chain 33, single crochet in the 2nd stitch and each stitch of the chain.(28-30 in. chest) AGE 8-12: Chain 37, single crochet in the 2nd stitch and each stitch of the chain. (30 - 32 in. chest) ADULT SMALL: Chain 41, single crochet in the 2nd stitch and each stitch of the chain. (32-38 in. chest) ADULT MEDIUM: Chain 45, single crochet in the 2nd stitch and each stitch of the chain. (38-42 in. chest) ADULT LARGE: Chain 49, single crochet in the 2nd stitch and each stitch of the chain. (42-48 in. chest) ADULT XL: Chain 53, single crochet in the 2nd stitch and each stitch of the chain. (48-54 in. chest) ADULT XXL: Chain 57, single crochet in the 2nd stitch and each stitch of the chain.(54 - 60 in. chest) 2. AGE 6 - 8: Chain 3 and turn (takes the place of the first triple crochet), triple crochet in the next 2 stitches, in the next stitch make: 2 triple crochet, chain 2, 2 triple crochet (corner stitch), *triple crochet in the next 7 stitches, In the next stitch make: 2 triple crochet, chain 2, 2 triple crochet. Repeat from * for 2 more times, triple crochet in each of the remaining 4 stitches. AGE 8 - 12: Chain 3 and turn (takes the place of the first triple crochet), triple crochet in the next 2 stitches, in the next stitch make: 2 triple crochet, chain 2, 2 triple crochet (corner stitch), triple crochet in the next 8 stitches, in the next stitch make a corner stitch. Triple crochet in the next 9 stitches, corner stitch in the next stitch, triple crochet in the next 8 stitches,corner stitch in the next stitch, triple crochet in each remaining 4 stitches. Triple crochet in the next 13 stitches, corner stitch in the next stitch, triple crochet in the next 12 stitches,corner stitch in the next stitch, triple crochet in each remaining 6 stitches. ADULT XXLARGE: Chain 3 and turn (takes the place of the first triple crochet), triple crochet in the next 5 stitches, in the next stitch make: 2 triple crochet, chain 2, 2 triple crochet (corner stitch), triple crochet in the next 13 stitches, in the next stitch make a corner stitch. Triple crochet in the next 13 stitches, corner stitch in the next stitch, triple crochet in the next 13 stitches,corner stitch in the next stitch, triple crochet in each remaining 7 stitches. 3. ALL SIZES:
Chain 3 and turn, *triple crochet in each stitch up to the next chain 2 space, in the chain 2 space make: 2 triple crochet, chain 2, 2 triple crochet. Repeat from * 3 more times, then triple crochet in each remaining stitch. 4. ALL SIZES:
Repeat step 3 for 6-8 yrs: 1 more row 8-12 yrs: 2 more rows Adult small: 3 more rows Adult Medium: 4 more rows Adult Large: 6 more rows Adult X Large: 7 more rows. Adult XXLarge: 8 more rows. 5. ALL SIZES:
ARMHOLE ROW: Chain 2 and turn, double crochet in each stitch up to the next chain 2 space, double crochet in the chain 2 space, skip all the stitches up to the next chain 2 space (armhole), double crochet in the chain 2 space, and each stitch up to the next chain 2 space. (back) double crochet in the chain 2 space, skip all the stitches up to the next chain 2 space (armhole) double crochet in the chain 2 space and each remaining stitch (front). 6. Chain 2 and turn, double crochet in each stitch across the row. 7. Repeat step 6. 8. Turn, *chain 5, skip the next stitch, single crochet in the next stitch, repeat from * across the row. 9. Turn, *chain 5, single crochet in the next loop, repeat from * across. 10. Repeat step 9 for 3 to 5 rows or more, depending on the length desired. Fasten off.



11. ALL SIZES: SLEEVES: Bring the 2 chain 1 spaces together at the underarm, attach yarn through both spaces attaching them together. (Note: for a larger sleeve opening, or more room across the chest, do not attach the two chain 2 spaces together, work separately in each, this will add more room in the sleeve and across the chest of the shrug as well.) *Chain 5, skip the next stitch, single crochet in the next stitch, repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the base of the first chain 5. 12. ALL SIZES:
Turn, slip stitch into the next loop, single crochet in the same loop, *chain 5, single crochet in the next loop, repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the first single crochet.
ABOVE COLOR: shaded pink 



13. ALL SIZES:
  Repeat step 12 for 7 rows or as many as desired for the length of the sleeves.
*Note: to make the sleeves taper, at the end of each row, single crochet into 2 loops, thereby reducing by one loop. Chain a cord of 5- to 80 stitches, fasten off. Fold in half, and pull the fold through a stitch on the front of the shrug, in any row, then pull the ends through the fold (larks head knot.). To close the shrug, bring one strand into the opposite side, and tie into a bow.

 NEWBORN - 3 MONTHS: 
1. Chain 32, slip stitch to join being careful not to twist the chain.
2.   Chain 2, double crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join.
3.   Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in the same stitch, *double crochet in the next stitch, single crochet in the
next stitch, repeat from * around, slip stitch to join, ending with a double crochet, slip stitch to join in the first
single crochet stitch.
4.  Chain 2 and turn, single crochet in the next stitch, double crochet in the next stitch, repeat from * around, ending
with a single crochet, slip stitch to join in the top of the first chain 2.

through the last row of stitches, pull to close
the top of the hat.  Weave all yarn ends into the finished work.

Fold the hat so the yarn end from the foundation chain is the back of the hat.
Count 4 stitches toward the front, attach yarn in the next stitch, single crochet in the same stitch, and in the next 6 stitches toward the front of the hat.  
*Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in each stitch across the 7 stitches,  repeat from * for 2 more rows.
Decrease for the end of the ear flap:  
*Chain 1 and turn, skip the first stitch, single crochet across the row, skipping the 2nd to last stitch, single crochet in the last stitch. repeat from * until there is only one stitch remaining.  Add another strand of yarn, and crochet the tie, with as many stitches as desired.  Fasten off.
Make the opposite ear flap:  Attach yarn in the matching stitch on the opposite side of the hat, and follow the above instructions to work the opposite ear flap.  Weave all yarn ends into the finished work.

single crochet stitch.
4.  Chain 2 and turn, single crochet in the next stitch, double crochet in the next stitch, repeat from * around, ending
with a single crochet, slip stitch to join in the top of the first chain 2.
5.  Repeat step 3 and 4.
6.  Chain 2 and turn, double crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join.
If making a headband, fasten off, weave yarn ends into the finished    
work.

7.  Repeat step 3 and 4 until the work measures 7inches.  
Then work in a spiral: *single crochet in the next 3 stitches, skip the next          stitch, 
repeat from * until the top of the hat
Is almost closed.  Fasten off, thread the yarn end into a needle, weave 
through the last row of stitches, pull to close
the top of the hat.  Weave all yarn ends into the finished work.

Fold the hat so the yarn end from the foundation chain is the back of the hat.
Count 7stitches toward the front, attach yarn in the next stitch, single crochet in the same stitch, and in the next 13 stitches toward the front of the hat.  
*Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in each stitch across the 14 stitches, repeat from * for 8 more rows.
Decrease for the end of the ear flap:  
*Chain 1 and turn, skip the first stitch, single crochet across the row, skipping the 2nd to last stitch, single crochet in the last stitch. repeat from * until there is only one stitch remaining.  Add another strand of yarn, and crochet the tie, with as many stitches as desired.  Fasten off.
Make the opposite ear flap:  Attach yarn in the matching stitch on the opposite side of the hat, and follow the above instructions to work the opposite ear flap.  Weave all yarn ends into the finished work.
