MATERIALS:

Worsted weight yarn (approx. 500 yds)

6.5 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

INSTRUCTIONS: Works top down.

1.  Chain 135


, (for a wider shawl,   

increase in multiples of 8),

 double crochet in the 3rd stitch from  

the hook, and in the next 3 stitches,

*chain 3, skip the next 3 stitches,  

double crochet in the next 5 stitches,

repeat from * across the row.


2.   Chain 3 and turn, (takes the place of the first double crochet),

double crochet in the next 4 stitches,

*chain 3, skip the next chain 3 space, double crochet in the 

next 5 stitches,

repeat from * across the row.

3.   Repeat step 2 five more times.




4.   Turn, *chain 5, skip the next 3 stitches, single crochet in the 

      next stitch,

repeat from * across the row.

5.   Turn, *chain 5, single crochet in the next loop, repeat from * 

      across the row.

6.   Repeat step 5 one more time.

7.   Chain 2 and turn, in each loop across the row make:

    2 double crochet, chain 1, 2 double crochet.


8.  Turn, slip stitch into the next stitch, and into the chain 1 

     space.

Chain 2, double crochet in the same space, chain 1, 2 double 

crochet in the same space. (shell formed)

In each chain 1 space across the row make: 2 double crochet, 

chain 1, 2 double crochet.


9.  Repeat step 8 for five more times.  Fasten off.  





      If desired add  fringe into each chain 1 space of the shells.
