MATERIALS:

Worsted weight yarn, (Bernat Premium), approx. 50 yards

6 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

1.  Chain 5, slip stitch to join and form a ring.

 

2. ROW 1:

Chain 2, make 2 double crochet in the ring, *chain 2, 3 

double crochet in the ring, repeat from *

two more times, at the end of the row, chain 2, slip 

stitch to join in the top of the first chain 2 of

the row. (12 dc, 4 ch 2 corners)

 


 

3.  ROW 2:

Chain 2, in the stitch directly below the chain 2, make 2 

front post double crochet (fpdc),

make 1 fpdc in the next stitch,

2 fpdc in the next stitch.  

In the chain 2 space make: double crochet, chain 2, 

double crochet.

*2 fpdc in the next stitch,

1 fpdc in the next stitch,

2 fpdc in the next stitch,

 in the chain 2 space: dc, ch 2, dc;

repeat from * around, ending in the last chain 2 space 

with: dc, ch 2, slip stitch to

join in the top of the chain 2 at the beginning of the row.

(20 fpdc, 4 corners:dc, ch2, dc)

 

 

4.  ROW 3:

Chain 2, in the stitch directly below the chain 2, make a 

back post double crochet (bpdc).

*2 fpdc in the next stitch,

1 fpdc in each of the next 3 stitches,

2 fpdc in the next stitch,

bpdc in the next stitch;

in the chain 2 space: dc, ch 2, dc,

bpdc in the next stitch.

Repeat from * around, ending in the last chain 2 space 

with: dc, ch 2, slip stitch in the top of the

chain 2.

(4 groups of 7 fpdc (total of 28 fpdc);  8 bpdc, 4 

corners: dc, ch2, dc)

 






 

ROW 4:

Chain 2, back post dc in the stitch directly below the 

chain 2,

bpdc in the next stitch.

 

Decrease in the next 2 stitches: yarn around the hook,     

insert under the first stitch, pick up the

yarn, pull it through then pick up the yarn and pull it 

through 2 loops (do not finish the dc),

insert the hook under the next stitch, pick up the yarn, 

pull it through, pick up the yarn pull it

through 2 loops, pull the yarn through all 3 remaining 

loops on the hook.

 

Fpdc in the next 3 stitches

work a decrease in the remaining 2 fpdc stitches.

bpdc in the next 2 stitches

In the chain 2 space: dc, ch2, dc

Repeat around:

Back post dc in 2 stitches,

Decrease front post,

Fpdc in the next 3 stitches

Decrease fpdc,

bpdc 2 stitches,

corner: dc, ch2, dc

(At the end of the row in the last chain 2 corner: dc, 

ch2, slip stitch into the top of the first chain

2 turning chain.)

(4 groups of 5 fpdc, 16 bpdc, 4 corners: dc, ch2, dc)

 


 





ROW 5:

 

Chain 2, bpdc in the stitch below the chain 2,

bpdc in the next 2 stitches,

 

Decrease: pass hook under the next group of 2 

fpdc stitches, pick up the yarn and pull it

through, pick up the yarn and pull through 2 loops, (do 

not finish the dc).

pass the hook under the next fpdc stitch, pick up the 

yarn and pull it through, pull yarn

through 2 loops, pick up the yarn and pull through all 3 

loops on the hook.

 

Fpdc in the next stitch,

Work a decrease in the next 3 stitches. (in 1 single 

fpdc, and the group of 2 fpdc)

 

Bpdc in the next 3 stitches

 

In the chain 2 corner space: dc, ch2, dc

 

Repeat around:

 Bpdc in the next 3 stitches,

decrease in the next 2 fpdc,

fpdc in the next stitch,

Decrease in the next 2 fpdc,

 bpdc in the next 3 stitches,

Corner (dc, ch 2, dc)

At the end of the row, in the last chain 2 space: dc, ch2, 

slip stitch in the top of the first turning

chain. (12 fpdc, 24 bpdc, 4 corner stitches: dc, ch2, dc)

 

 








ROW 6

Chain 2,

bpdc in the stitch below the chain 2,

bpdc in the next 3 stitches,

Work a decrease in the next 3 fpdc stitches, 

reducing to 1 stitch,

bpdc in the next 4 stitches,

in the corner space: dc, ch2 dc

 

Repeat around:

4 bpdc,

Decrease of 3 fpdc into 1,

4 bpdc,

Corner: dc, 2h2, dc ending the last corner with dc, ch 2, 

slip stitch into the top of the chain 2.

(32 bpdc, 4 fpdc, 4 corners: dc, ch2, dc

 

ROW 7:

Chain 2, double crochet in each stitch around,

 BUT, in each corner make: 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc.

At the end of the row, slip stitch to join

in the top of the turning ch 2.

(60 dc, 4 ch 2 corner spaces.)


Fasten off, weave yarn ends into the finished work.
