An easy, flat knit, Angel for using as a Christmas Tree Topper, or on a table or mantle.  Instructions on how to make a cone included.

MATERIALS:

Worsted weight yarn, (Red Heart Super Saver, 

or 100% cotton worsted.

4 mm knitting needles

Yarn needle

Ribbon for wings, approx. 3 yds.

1/4 inch ribbon, 1 yd.

Optional: hot glue gun and glue stick

Small amount of stuffing for the head

Poster board, or card stock, or stiff cardboard for making a cone (instructions included)

1.  Worked flat, bottom up.

Working with ww yarn and 4 mm needles (US 6)

Cast on 36 stitches.

 

2.  Work in garter stitch for 4 rows. (k every row)

3.  FOR 4 ROWS:

*Knit 2 stitches, purl 2 stitches, repeat from * across the row.

 

4.  Knit every row for 4 rows.

 

5.  FOR 4 ROWS:

*Knit 2 stitches, purl 2 stitches, repeat from * across the row.

 

6.  Knit every row for 2 rows.

 

 

 

 

 

7.  FOR 2 ROWS: *Purl 2, knit 2, repeat from * across the row.

8.  FOR 2 ROWS: *Knit 2, purl 2, repeat from * across the row.

9.  Repeat steps 7 and 8.

 

10.  FOR 20 ROWS: Work in ribbing. (Knit 1, purl 1.)

     (For a taller angel, add more rows.)

11.  Knit 2 stitches together across the row. (18)

 

12. Work in ribbing for 6 rows, (k1,p1), cast off. Bring the 2 sides

together and sew the back seam of the body.


  MAKE THE CONE:  Place the knitted body on stiff cardboard or poster paper and draw a line around.




 Cut out, 




tape the 2 SIDES together to form a cone. 



trim off the bottom evenly.

 


 

ARMS:  Worked top down.  Cast on 12 stitches.

            FOR 2 ROWS: *Purl 2, knit 2, repeat from * across the row.

            FOR 2 ROWS: *Knit 2, purl 2, repeat from * across the row.

           FOR 2 ROWS: *Purl 2, knit 2, repeat from * across the row.

            FOR 2 ROWS: *Knit 2, purl 2, repeat from * across the row.

           Knit 2 stitches together across the row. (6)

           Work stockinette stitch for 12 rows.

           Fasten off. Sew the underarm seams.

           If desired, stuff the tops of the sleeves.

HEAD:  Cast on 12 stitches.  Knit 2 stitches in each stitch. (24).  

       Work stockinette stitch for 12 rows.  Knit 2 stitches together across the row, cast off.  


Thread the yarn end into a needle, sew the 2 sides together, 




then weave through the

end, pull to gather and close.  




Stuff the head, 




weave through the top row of stitches, pull to gather and close the top of the head.


 

 




 ASSEMBLY:

Sew the arms to the sides of the body.

 

 


 

 Sew or glue the head to the top of the body.

 Tie the ends of the arms together.

 HAIR:

Make 5 bundles of yarn. (I cut my yarn in 30 inch lengths.) Fold in half and tie together.




Attach 1 bundle to the front of the head (sew or glue), 




then attach another bundle directly behind, continue to cover the head.


BACK VIEW:

Bring all the yarn to one side of the head,  braid into a loose braid











Trim the ends evenly.





 

HALO:

Wrap a chenille stem (pipe cleaner)

around the head.

 


 



 Glue a small ribbon bow under the chin.


 



WINGS:  I made 2 bows, 


placed one over the other,




and glued them onto the back of the body.

I glued a little rose bundle over the ends of the arms.

 

 


 

If desired, use a cotton tip swab to add blush to cheeks.
