Gauge: 2.5 stitches long = 1 inch
1. Worked bottom up.
MAKE 2, CONNECT AT THE SHOULDERS AND SIDES.
(Cast on is the bottom of the sweater, therefore it will prevent
it from stretching out.)
With 8 mm needles (US11) and chunky yarn,
OR 2 strands of ww yarn
Small: chest 30 - 34 inches : cast on 40 stitches
Medium: chest 34 - 38 inches Cast on 46 stitches
Large: chest 38 - 42 inches Cast on Cast on 52 stitches
XLARGE: chest 42 - 46 inches Cast on 58 stitches
2XL: chest 46 - 50 inches Cast on 62 stitches
3XL: chest 50 - 54 inches Cast on 66 stitches
4XL: chest 54 - 58 inches Cast on 70 stitches
2. Knit every row for 4 rows (garter stitch).
3. Work in ribbing (k1p1) for 2 rows.
TIP: Sometimes it is difficult to decide whether 3 rows or 4 rows have been worked in garter stitch, therefore after working the first 4 rows of garter stitch, attach something to the side facing you, then when that side is facing you, you will have worked 4 rows.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the top is the length
desired from the bottom hem to underarms.
Knitting needles set:
5. Decrease for the underarms.
Small: Cast off 4 stitches, work across the row, repeat for 1 more row.
Medium: Cast off 6 stitches, work across the row, repeat for 1 more row.
Large: Cast off 6 stitches, work across the row, repeat for 1 more row.
XLARGE: Cast off 8 stitches, work across the row, repeat for 1 more row.
2XL: Cast off 8 stitches, work across the row, repeat for 1 more row.
3XL: Cast off 10 stitches, work across the row, repeat for 1 more row.
4XL: Cast off 10 stitches, work across the row, repeat for 1 more row.
6. Continue to work in the pattern sequence until the work is the needed length for the
armholes.
Examples:
S: approx. 7.5 inches
M: approx. 8.5 inches
L: approx. 10 inches
XL: approx. 10.5 inches
2XL: approx. 11 inches
3XL: approx. 11.5 inches
4XL: approx. 12 inches
Cast off. Make 2, connect at the shoulders and sides.
Trouble shooting:
If you need a wider finished sweater,
knit 2 strips in garter stitch, and join at
the sides.
If the sections are too large, take wider
seams on the sides.
