Super bulky yarn, or any size yarn
9 mm crochet hook, or any size hook
Yarn needle

5-12 yrs: Chain 18 (or until the chain measures approx. 7 inches)
12-16 yrs: Chain 20 (or the chain measures approx. 7.5 inches)
Adult: Chain 22 (or the chain measures approx. 8 inches))
Double crochet in the 3rd stitch from the hook, and each stitch of the chain.
*Chain 2 and turn, working in the back side of the stitch only, double crochet in each stitch across the row.
Repeat from* until the work measures approx.:
5-12 yrs: 20 inches
12-16 yrs: 21 inches
Adult : 22 inches
Fold the work in half, bringing the foundation row and the last row completed together, and slip stitch the 2 ends together to form a tube.
Weave yarn through one open end of the tube, pull to gather and close the top of the hat, weave yarn ends into the finished work.

Work the collar first: (Instructions are given for 9 mm hook and super bulky yarn, measurements in inches are for working with any size hook and any size yarn.)
1. 5-12 yrs: chain 18 or until the chain measures approx. 7
inches
12-16 yrs: chain 20 or until the chain measures approx. 7.5
inches
Adult XS: chain 22 or until the chain measures approx. 8
inches
Adult Small: chain 23, or until the chain measures approx.
8.5 inches
Adult Medium: chain 24, or until the chain measures approx.
9 inches
Adult Large: chain 26, or until the chain measures approx.
9.5 inches
Adult XL: Chain 28, or until the chain measures approx. 10
inches
Adult 2XL: Chain 28, or until the chain measures approx. 10
inches
Adult 3XL: Chain 28, or until the chain measures approx. 10
inches
Adult 4XL: Chain 28, or until the chain measures approx. 10
inches.
2. Double crochet in the 3rd stitch from the hook, and each
stitch of the chain.
3. Working in the back side of the stitch only: chain 2 and
turn, double crochet in each stitch across the row.
4. Repeat step 3 until the work measures:
5-12 yrs: approx. 20 inches
12-16 yrs: approx. 21 inches
Adult Small: approx. 23 inches
Adult Medium: approx. 24 inches
Adult Large: approx. 25 inches
L to 4XL: approx. 26 inches
5. Bring the foundation row and the last row completed
together, and slip stitch to join into a tube.
(Cowl collar formed.)
6. Working along one open end of the tube:
5-12 yrs: chain 3, double crochet in the same stitch.
Working in the sides of the dc of the collar: in the next dc
make:
*Double crochet, chain 1, double crochet (V stitch formed)
V stitch in the side of the next double crochet,
make 2 V stitches in the side of the next double crochet.
Repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the 2nd stitch of
the chain 3.
12-16 yrs: chain 3, double crochet in the same stitch.
Working in the sides of the dc of the collar: in the next dc
make:
*Double crochet, chain 1, double crochet (V stitch formed)
make 2 V stitches in the side of the next double crochet.
Repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the 2nd stitch of
the chain 3.
Adult Small: chain 3, double crochet in the same stitch.
Working in the sides of the dc of the collar: in the next dc
make:
Double crochet, chain 1, double crochet (V stitch formed)
make 1 more V stitch in the same stitch.
*Make 2 V stitches in the side of the next double crochet.
Repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the 2nd stitch of
the chain 3.
Adult Medium: chain 3, double crochet in the same stitch.

Repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the 2nd stitch of

Adult Large: chain 3, double crochet in the same stitch.

make 1 more V stitch in the same stitch.
*Make 2 V stitches in the side of the next double crochet.
Repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the 2nd stitch of

2XL - 4XL: Chain 3, double crochet in the same stitch.
Make one additional V stitch in the same space (V stitch =
dc, ch1, dc).
*Make 2 V stitches in the side of the next 3 double crochet
stitches,
3 V stitches in the side of the next double crochet.
Repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the 2nd stitch of
the chain 3.
7. All sizes: Slip stitch into the next chain 1 space.
Chain 3, double crochet in the same space.
*In every chain 1 space around, make a V stitch.
Repeat from* around, slip stitch to join in the 2nd stitch
of the chain 3.
8. Repeat step 7 until the poncho is the desired length.
Weave yarn ends into the finished work.
