Adult: cast on 32 stitches.

2.  Work in stockinette stitch (k 1 row, p 1 row) for 16 rows.

(Brim will be turned in and sewn when finished, or if you

are experienced at knitting, after working the 16th row,

fold and work both sides of the work together in the next

row by picking up one stitch from the opposite side onto

the left needle, then knitting 2 stitches together.)

3.  Knit across the row, working 2 stitches in every 2nd stitch. (36, 42, 48)

4.  Work 3 rows of knit one stitch, purl one stitch.

5.  Knit across the next row.

6.  Repeat steps 4 and 5 for

three more times for 5-12 yrs:

four more times for 12 yrs to adult.

Cast off with a long yarn end, thread it into a needle, weave through the last row of stitches, pull to close the top of the hat, take several stitches to secure, then sew the back seam of the hat. Secure with a few stitches, and weave yarn ends into the finished work.

Thread yarn into a yarn needle, fold the brim to the inside of the hat, sew around to secure, being careful not to pull too tightly so the hat will still stretch to fit, weave

yarn end into the finished work. (Brim should stretch 22-24 inches)
