FLAT KNIT MITTENS
KNITTING FOR BEGINNERS

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn, worked 2 strands
Mittens: 140 yds
7 mm knitting needles (WORKED FLAT)
Yarn needle

Work a rectangle:
Working with 7 mm knitting needles, and 2 strands of ww yarn,
Worked sideways.
1. 5-12 yrs: Cast on 18 stitches
2. knit every row for 20 rows, cast off. Leave a long yarn end for
sewing side seam.

3. THUMB: (5-12 yrs) Cast on 5 stitches, knit every row for 11 rows, cast off with a 12 inch long yarn end.
The video below shows another style of slippers which are also worked flat, so easy for Beginners!!!
4. Thread the yarn end from the main body of the mittens into a yarn needle, weave through the end of the mittens (along the end of the vertical ridges). Pull to gather up and close the end of the mittens, then sew the side seam, leaving an opening for the thumb. Weave yarn ends into the finished work.
Thumb: Thread the yarn end into a needle, weave through the end of the rectangle along the ends of the vertical ridges, pull to gather up and close the end of the thumb, then sew the inside seam, position evenly into the opening of the mitten, and sew all around with the same yarn to attach the thumb to the mitten. Weave yarn ends into the finished work.
