stitches, chain 2,
repeat from* up to the next marked stitch (ending with a
chain 2 before the marked stitch)..
In the marked stitch make: 3 double crochet, chain 2, 3

*chain 2, (forms a chain 2 space), make 3 double crochet
in the next chain 2 space.
repeat from * up to and including the last chain 2 space
before the center shell,
(make sure to add a chain 2 space before working the
center shell)
in the chain 2 space of the shell, make a shell: 3 double
crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet,
then *chain 2, 3 double crochet in the next chain 2 space,
repeat from * up to the next shell,
(ending with a chain 2 space),
in the chain 2 space of the shell, make a shell: 3 double
crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet,
*chain 2, make 3 double crochet in the next chain 2 space.
Repeat from * up to the end of the row ending with
a chain 2 space, slip stitch to join in the top
of the first chain 2.

3.  Repeat step 2 until the poncho is as long as desired.
(Remember to work into the chain 2 space before and
after each center shell, as this is what
causes the poncho to increase in size.)

4.  Bottom Edge:  (Optional, a fringe could be added instead
     of the picot edge.)
Repeat step 2, but in each 3dc cluster form the picot in
     this manner:
double crochet, double crochet, chain 3, slip stitch
into the top of the last dc, double crochet.

In the center shells: 3 double crochet, chain 3, slip stitch
into the last dc,3 double crochet.
