MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn, approx. 80 - 120 yards.
6 mm crochet hook
Yarn needle

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.  Works TOP DOWN. 
Leave a 12 inch long yarn end for closing the top of the hat.
        5 - 12 YRS: Chain 60, slip stitch to join, being careful not to    
       twist the chain.

        12-16 YRS: Chain 66, slip stitch to join being careful not to 
        twist the chain.

        ADULT: Chain 72, slip stitch to join, being careful not to twist 
        the chain.


2. Chain 2, in the same stitch make: double crochet, chain 1, 2 
    double crochet,  
   *skip the next 2 stitches, in the next stitch make a front post     
    double crochet stitch,

 skip the next 2 stitches, in the next stitch, make 2 double 
crochet, chain 1, 2 double crochet.
   Repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the top of the first 
   chain 2.

3. Slip stitch to the first chain 1 space, chain 2, in the same 
   space  make: double crochet, chain 1, 2 double crochet, 
  *in the next front post double crochet, make a front post 
   double crochet, in the
next chain 1 space, make 2 double crochet, chain 1, 2 double 
crochet;
 repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the top of the first    
 chain 2.

4. Repeat step 3 for:
5-12 yrs: 9 more rows.
12-16 yrs: 10 more rows.
Adult:  11 more rows.  
Fasten off. Thread beginning yarn end into a yarn needle, 
weave through the top row of stitches,
pull to gather up and close the top of the hat, take several 
stitches to secure. Weave yarn ends into
the finished work.

BLOCKING: Basically there are 2 ways of blocking.
1.  Steam blocking: arrange item on a flat surface, hold steam iron above the surface, (not touching the surface), and
   steam. Allow the item to dry in the shape desired.
2.  Immerse in water, and squeeze water out, or spray with water. Arrange item on a thick bath towel, shape
as desired, allow to dry undisturbed.

MATERIALS:
Red Heart Chunky Yarn, or 2 strands of worsted weight yarn
One pair straight 7 mm knitting needles
Yarn needle

INSTRUCTIONS: Gauge: 3 stitches and 3 rows = 1 sq. Inch

1.  Cast on:
   Baby to 12 months: cast on 4 stitches
   1-4 yrs; cast on 6 stitches
   4-8 yrs: cast on 8 stitches
   8-12 yrs: cast on 9 stitches
   Adult: cast on 10 stitches
2.  Work in garter stitch (knit every row), until the work will wrap    
     around the head. Cast off
3.  Sew the ends together with a yarn needle and same yarn.
4.  Band: Cast on 8 stitches, work in garter stitch for 6 rows, cast off.
    Wrap around the headband to cover the seam, sew the 2 ends 
    together.
   Weave all yarn ends into the finished work.
