BLOCKING: Basically there are 2 ways of blocking.
1. Steam blocking: arrange item on a flat surface, hold steam iron
above the surface, (not touching the surface), and
steam. Allow the item to dry in the shape desired.
2. Immerse in water, and squeeze water out, or spray with water.
Arrange item on a thick bath towel, shape
as desired, allow to dry undisturbed.
MATERIALS:
Caron tea Cakes, super bulky yarn…OR…
2 strands of worsted weight yarn, (40 yds bulky yarn, 80 yds worsted weight)
9 mm knitting needles (US 13; UK 00)

INSTRUCTIONS: Gauge: 2.5 stitches and 3 rows = 1 sq. inch

This pattern is available for all sizes from 3 months to adult in my Ravelry shop for $1.50:
1. Newborn - 3 months: Cast on 28 stitches.
2. Work in ribbing (k 2, p2) for 2 rows.
3. Change to ivory color yarn, work in stockinette stitch (k one row,
p one row), for 4 rows.
4. Change to main color, work in stockinette stitch for 6 rows.
5. Knit 2 stitches together across the row. (14)
6. Purl across the row.
7. Knit 2 stitches together across the row, casting off each stitch
after it is worked. (7)
Leave a long yarn end, thread into a needle, weave through the last row of stitches, pull to gather up and close the
top of the hat, take several stitches to secure, then sew the back
seam of the hat.
BOW TIE: Cast on 4 stitches, knit every row (garter stitch) for 12 rows, cast off.
Wrap yarn around the center to form a bow tie, attach to the band on the hat.
