MATERIALS:
Any size yarn (double knitting, sport weight, worsted weight) (Red Heart Unforgettable used in this sample,

4.5 mm crochet hook
Yarn needle

1.  Chain 5, slip stitch to join and form a ring.




2.  Chain 4, make 3 triple crochet in the ring, chain 4, single crochet in the ring.

 






3.  Repeat step 2.



4.  Chain 2, 2 double crochet in the ring, chain 3, slip stitch into the top of the last double
crochet stitch, 2 double crochet, chain 2, single crochet in the ring.

  





 
  

5.  Repeat step 4.  Slip stitch to join in the base of the first chain 4, fasten off.

 



6.  Wrap dark yarn around the center of the butterfly several times, tie into a square knot to
    form the head, tie knots in the 2 strands of yarn, trim off the excess.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn or 100% cotton worsted
4.5 mm crochet hook
Yarn needle
Floral stem wire
Shank style button or a large bead

    Make the receptacle: (with green yarn, see finished receptacle in photo 4)
1.  Photo 1: Chain 5, slip stitch to join and form a ring.
2.  Photo 2: Chain 2, make 8 single crochet in the ring, slip stitch to join.   
3.  Photo 3: Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join.
4.  Photo 4: Chain 1 and turn, single crochet around, making 2 single crochet in every 2nd 
    stitch.
5.  Repeat step 3, fasten off.


6.  Petals: Photo 5: Attach colored yarn in any stitch.
   *Chain 6, single crochet in the same stitch, repeat from * to make 3 loops in the same
stitch. (Photo 6)
Make three (3)  chain 6 loops in every stitch around, fasten off. (Photo 7 and 8)


Stem: Photo 9: Place a shank style button on the wire, and fold in half.
      Photo 10: Pass the wire through the center of the flower.
      Photo 11: Sideways view.
      Photo 12: Attach yarn in any stitch on the bottom of the receptacle.
      Photo 13: Insert hook directly opposite and slip stitch, repeat to make the receptacle
               stable on the wire,
      Photo 14: Single crochet to cover the entire wire.
      Photo 15: At the end, fold the wire over.  
 




      Photo 16:  Fasten off, and wind the yarn around to cover the folded wire, weave the
                yarn end into the finished work.


LEAF:
        Photo 17: Attach yarn in any stitch on the stem.
        Photo 18: Chain 4, slip stitch into the same stitch to form a loop.
        Photo 19: Turn. In the loop make: chain 2, 3 double crochet, chain 2, slip stitch into
                  the ring, fasten off.  Weave yarn ends into the finished work.

1. Adult Small: chain 32 (all other sizes below).
2.  Double crochet in the 4th stitch from the hook.  *Skip the next stitch, in the next
    stitch make: Double crochet, chain 1, double crochet.  Repeat from * across the row.

3.  Slip stitch into the 1st chain 1 space, chain 3, double crochet in the same space.
In each chain 1 space across the row make: double crochet, chain 1, double crochet.

4.  Repeat step 3 until the rectangle measures:  
Small: approx. 36 inches

Fasten off, fold the rectangle in half, sew the two ends to form sleeves, weave all yarn ends into
the finished work.

   make as many rows as you wish for the length of the shrug.



9.  Shell edge.
Chain 1, turn.  Working across the bottom of the shrug, single crochet in the same stitch,
*skip the next stitch, 4 double crochet in the next stitch, skip the next stitch, single crochet
in the next stitch.
Repeat from * across the bottom.  Then work up the front,around the neck, and down the opposite front. 
 (Evenly space the shells up the front sections, so that the work lies flat.)   At the end of the round,  slip 
stitch to join in the first single crochet, fasten off.
Weave yarn ends into the finished work.
Sew a button on the front, or tie with a ribbon.
