2. Knit every row for 5 rows.
3. Work in stockinette stitch (k 1 row, p 1 row) for 4 rows.
4. Knit every row for 4 rows.
5. Work in stockinette stitch for 10 rows.
6. Knit 2 stitches together across the row, reducing to 20 stitches.

8. Knit 2 stitches together across the row, reducing to 10 stitches.
9. Purl across the row.
10. Knit 2 stitches together across the row, casting off each stitch after it is worked. Leave a long yarn end, thread it into a yarn needle, weave through the last row of stitches, pull to close the top of the hat, take several stitches to secure, then sew the back seam of the hat. (See a link above for how to sew a seam in knitting.)
With the same color yarn as the hat, and a yarn needle, pass through the front of the hat, to pull the 2 rows of garter stitch together, sew the flower over the gathers.
FLOWER: Cast on 30 stitches, knit across the row, casting off each stitch after it is worked. Leave a long yarn end, thread it into a needle, pass the needle through every 6th stitch, pull to gather up the center of the flower. Take several stitches to secure, tie the 2 yarn ends together on the back of the flower. Arrange the petals (block if necessary with steam and a steam iron held ABOVE the flower). Sew a button or pearl in the center. Attach to the hat over the
seam that gathers the front of the hat.
