MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn
6.5 mm crochet hook
Yarn needle
INSTRUCTIONS: Gauge: 3 sc and 3 rows = 1 sq. Inch
Works bottom up

1. Newborn - 3 months; chain 32
3 - 6 months: chain 36
6 - 12 months: chain 38
1 - 2 yrs: chain 40
2 - 5 yrs: chain 44
5 - 8 yrs: chain 46
8 - 10 years: chain 48
10 - 12 years: chain 52
Adult Small: chain 54
Adult large (larger head): chain 56 - 58
2. Slip stitch to join, being careful not to twist the chain.
3. Chain 2, double crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join.
4. Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in the same stitch, *triple crochet in the next stitch,
single crochet in the next stitch, repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the first single
crochet.
5. Chain 2 and turn, double crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join.
6. Repeat step 4 and 5 for:
Newborn - 3 months: 2 more times
3 - 6 months: 2 more times
6 - 12 months; 2 more times
1 - 2 yrs: 2 more times, plus one more row of step 5.
2 - 4 yrs: 2 more times, plus one more row of step 5.
4 - 6 yrs: 2 more times, plus one more row of step 5.
6 - 8 years: 2 more times, plus one more row of step 5.
8 - 12 years: 3 more times
Adult small: 3 more times
Adult large: 4 more times
7. Decrease for the top of the hat:
*Chain 2, work double crochet decrease across the row, decreasing to 1/2 the original
Repeat from * one more time for newborn to 6 months
2 more times for all other sizes.
Fasten off with a long yarn end, thread it into a yarn needle, and weave through the last
row of stitches, pull to gather up and close the top of the hat, weave yarn ends into the
finished work.
