MATERIALS:

Worsted weight yarn

5.5 mm crochet hook

Pillow form

Yarn needle


I used 3 colors: turquoise, purple, and dark green

Cover the pillow form with a black tshirt knit for a different look as in the round pillow above.

1.  Chain 5, slip stitch to join and form a ring.

 

2.  Chain 3, make 15 triple crochet (tc) in the ring, slip stitch to join in the top of the chain 3.

3.  Chain 2, working in the back side of the stitch only, make 2 dc in each stitch around, slip stitch

to join. (32)

 

4.  Chain 3 (counts as a dc and ch1), double crochet in the same stitch, *skip the next stitch,  

in the next ch 1 space make: dc, ch1,dc, repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the 2nd

stitch of the chain 3.  (Sixteen tr “V” stitches formed.)

 

5.  (I fastened off and attached a purple color in the next chain 1 space).

Chain 2, make 2 dc in the same stitch, in each chain 1 space around, make 3 dc.

At the end of the row, chain 1, slip stitch to join in the top of the chain 2.

(16 3dc clusters formed.)

 

6.  Chain 2 and turn (counts as a dc), working in the space between the 3dc clusters, make

3 dc in the same space.

In every space between the 3 dc clusters, make 4 dc, slip stitch to join in the top of the

chain 2. (16 4dc clusters formed.)

 

7.  (I fastened off and attached turquoise yarn in the center of the next  4dc cluster.

 (Between the 2nd and 3rd dc of the 4dc cluster.)

Chain 3, make 4 triple crochet in that stitch.  

In the center space of each 4dc cluster, make 5 triple crochet,

at the end of the row, slip stitch to join in the top of the chain 3. (Sixteen 5tc clusters formed.)

 

8. Turn, working in the space between the 5 tc clusters, chain 3, make 5 tc in the same

space. In the space between every 5 tc cluster make 6 triple crochet, at the end of the

row, slip stitch to join in the top of the chain 3. Fasten off. (Sixteen 6tc clusters formed.)

 

9. I fastened off and attached purple yarn in the next space between the 6tc cluster.  Chain 3,

make 6 tc in the same space.  In every space between every 6 tc cluster, make 7 tc

At the end of the row, slip stitch to join in the top of the chain 3. (Sixteen 7tc clusters formed.)

 

FOR A ROUND PILLOW, FASTEN OFF, MAKE 2, THEN SLIP STITCH ALL AROUND THE OUTSIDE EDGE, STOPPING TO PLACE A ROUND FORM INSIDE THEN FINISH THE SEAM.  **OR** SEW AROUND WITH A NEEDLE AND SAME COLOR YARN.



TURN YOUR CIRCLE

INTO A SQUARE:

 

Place a marker in every 4th7tc cluster.

 

 


 

 

 10Begin in the first stitch of a corner 7tc cluster.

Chain 3, (counts as a tr),

 triple crochet in the next stitch,

double crochet in the next stitch,

5 double crochet in the next stitch,

double crochet in the next stitch,

triple crochet in the remaining 2 stitches.

 

 


 

11.  Next 7tc cluster:

Triple crochet in the first stitch,

double crochet in the next stitch

slip stitch in the next 3 stitches

double crochet in the next stitch

triple crochet in the last stitch.

 

 


 

12.  Repeat step 11 in the next two 7tc clusters.


13.  In the next 7tc cluster form a corner;

     triple crochet, triple crochet, double crochet, 5 double crochet, double crochet, triple

crochet, triple crochet.

 

14.  Repeat steps11, 12, and 13 around all 4 sides of the

work, slip stitch to join in the top of the first chain 3.


 


15.   Chain 2, double crochet in every

stitch around, BUT, in the center

stitch of the 5 dc corner, work 5 dc.  

At the end of the round, slip stitch to

join in the top of the first

chain 2.

 

16.  Repeat step 15.


17.  I fastened off and attached turquoise

yarn, and worked step 15 for 2 more

rows.

IF YOU NEED MORE ROWS, SIMPLY REPEAT STEP 15.

 

MAKE 2, SEW AROUND 3 SIDES, INSERT PILLOW FORM, SEW THE REMAINING SEAM.

(Note: even if your square is not completely square, it will adjust when the pillow form is

inserted inside.  Or you can block the square.)
