1.  Newborn to 3 months: chain 36, slip stitch to join being
careful not to twist the chain.

2.  Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to
     join.

3.  *Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in each stitch around
     slip stitch to join.

4.  Chain 1 and turn, (takes the place of the 1st stitch), single
    crochet in the next stitch,
in the next stitch make a bobble stitch: work 3 double
crochet in the same stitch, working
only the 1st step of a dc, pulling the yarn through the 1st 2
loops, and keeping the last loop on the hook, ( after
working 3 dc, you will have 4 loops on the hook), pick up
the yarn on the hook, and pull through all 4 loops on the
hook. (See a visual demo in the video:

Across the row repeat: single crochet in the next stitch,
single crochet in the next stitch, bobble stitch in the next
stitch.  At the end of the row, slip stitch to join. (You should
have ended with a bobble stitch at the end of the row, so
slip stitch to join in the 1st chain 1.)

5.  *Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in each stitch across the
row.  Repeat from * for one more row.

6.  Repeat step 4 and 5 for
3 more times (total of 4 rows of bobble stitch)

7.  Decrease for the top of the hat:  Work in a spiral,
decreasing one stitch every 4th stitch.
(Decrease may be accomplished by skipping the 4th stitch,
or working a single crochet decrease into the
4th and 5th stitch.  Shown in the video demo.)
Fasten off when there is approx. a 1 inch opening, weave
yarn through the last row of stitches,
secure with a few stitches, weave yarn ends into the
finished work.

EARS:  Chain 10, single crochet in the 2nd stitch from the hook, double crochet in each stitch down the row, making 5 double crochet in the last stitch of the foundation chain, work down the opposite side of the chain, making double crochet in each stitch, single crochet in the last stitch, fasten off.

Make one white, and one pink for each ear, stack the two colors, attach yarn through both layers, and half-double crochet up the side of the ear to attach the 2 layers.

At the end of the row where there were 5 dc in the same stitch, make 2 half-double crochet in each of those 5 stitches, then half-double crochet down the other side of the ear, fasten off with a long yarn end.

Thread yarn end into a needle, fold the ear in half, and stitch 2-3 stitches high,
(shown in the video), then sew the ear onto the hat, just below the 2nd row of bobble stitches.

TIES:  For each tie cut 3 strands of yarn 4 to 6 feet long, fold in half, pull the fold through a stitch on the bottom band of the hat, below the ear, then chain, using all 6 strands, to use up the yarn, trim the ends evenly.
