1.  Newborn - 3 months: Double knitting yarn, and 6 mm crochet hook
3 - 6 months: Worsted weight yarn, and 6 mm crochet hook

    Chain 34, single crochet in the 2nd stitch from the hook, and each stitch of the chain.

 2.  Chain 2 and turn, double crochet in the next 4 stitches.
In the next stitch make a “V” stitch: (double crochet, chain 1, double crochet)
double crochet in the next 6 stitches, V stitch in the next stitch;
double crochet in the next 7 stitches, V stitch in the next stitch;
double crochet in the next 6 stitches, V stitch in the next stitch;
double crochet in the remaining 5 stitches.

3.  Chain 2 and turn, *double crochet in the same stitch, and in each stitch up to the next
V stitch.  In the chain 1 space of the V stitch, make a V stitch.
*Double crochet in each stitch up to the next V stitch, in the chain 1 space, make a
V stitch.  Repeat from * two more times, double crochet in each remaining stitch.

4.  Repeat step 3 for 3 more rows.

5.  Attach a contrasting color yarn, (optional), chain 2, *double crochet up to and including the
    chain 1 space of the next V stitch, skip all the stitches up to the next V stitch (armhole),
    Repeat from * one more time, double crochet in each remaining stitch of the row.

6.  Skirt: Working with main color Chain 2 and turn, 2 double crochet in the same stitch,
   make 3 double crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join.

7.  *Chain 2 and turn, working in the back side of the stitch only, double crochet in each stitch
around, slip stitch to join.

8.  Repeat step 7 for as many rows as needed for the length desired. See the chart below.

9.  Border:
    Attach contrasting color yarn (optional), chain 2, double crochet in each stitch
around, slip stitch to join.
*Chain 3, single crochet in the next stitch, repeat from * around,
slip stitch to join in the base of the first chain 3, fasten off.

10. Armholes and neck opening.  Attach yarn in any stitch, *chain 3, single crochet
in the next stitch, repeat from * around, slip stitch to join and fasten off.
NOTE:  When working the neck opening, and working down the 2 sides of the back
opening, instead of working a single crochet in the next stitch, work a single crochet in the
base of the next double crochet.  This will make a more flat trim around the opening.

Use one of the loops as a buttonhole, and sew a button that will fit through the loop on the opposite side.

Pass a ribbon through the first row of stitches on the skirt.

Weave all yarn ends into the finished work.
