#823 - CHUNKY KNIT SHRUG

MATERIALS:

Worsted weight yarn, worked 2 strands 

(1-2 skeins of 198 grams depending on size)

OR
1 strand of chunky yarn 

Knitting needles size 15mm (US 19)

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Working with size 15 mm needles, 

    and 2 strands of worsted weight yarn:


                                  (OR 1 STRAND OF CHUNKY YARN)

 Small to Medium: 

Cast on 50 stitches 

2. Knit across the row.

3. Knit across the row, making 2 stitches in every 2nd stitch.

(Knit into the front and then into the back of the stitch to make 2 stitches in the same stitch.) (*Note: do not make 2 stitches in the last stitch, as that will 

cause a bump.)  (S-M: 74)

 

4.   Purl across the row.

5.  Knit across the row.

6 Small to Medium: “purl one row, knit one row”, 3 times (total of 6 rows) 

 

7. Knit across the row, making 2 stitches in every 2nd stitch. ( S-M: 110)

 

8.   ARMHOLE ROW:

Knit the first 16 stitches, 

cast off the next 26 stitches, 

knit the next 27 stitches, 

cast off the next 26 stitches, 

knit the remaining 15 stitches of the row.


9.     Knit across the row,

 Knit across the next row.

Then work in stockinette stitch 

(K one row, P one row). for

 XS: 12 rows (add more rows for a longer vest.)


10. Work in ribbing stitch (knit one stitch, purl one stitch) for 4 rows and cast off. Weave yarn ends into the finished work.

 

Options FOR CLOSURE: 

1. Tie at the neck. (Use ribbon, or tie 5 strands of yarn together with a knot at each  

     end to use for a tie, and pass through a row at the top neck edge.)

2. Sew a button below the bust and pass through a stitch as a buttonhole.

3.  Close in the front with a hair barrette or a shawl pin or brooch.
