MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn, worked 2 strands (total of 280 yds for adult; age 2 -5: 144 yds;
8-12 yrs: 180 yds; 12-16: 220 yds.)
9 MM crochet hook
Yarn needle
2 pony tail elastics
1. Working with a 9 mm hook, and 2 strands of worsted weight yarn.
Work 16 single crochet around 1 or 2 pony tail elastics, slip stitch to join in the first single crochet.
2. Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (16 stitches)
3. Chain 1 and turn, make 2 single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (32 stitches)
4. AGE 2 - 5, go to step 5
AGE 5 - 8, chain 1 and turn, *single crochet in the next 4 stitches, 2 single crochet in the next stitch,
repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the first single crochet. (38 stitches)
AGE 8 - 12: chain 1 and turn, *single crochet in the next 3 stitches, 2 single crochet in the next stitch,
repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the first single crochet. (40 stitches)
AGE 12 - 16: chain 1 and turn, *single crochet in the next 2 stitches, 2 single crochet in the next stitch,
repeat from * around, slip stitch to join. (42 stitches)
Adult: Chain 1 and turn, *single crochet in the next stitch, 2 single crochet in the next stitch, repeat
from * around, slip stitch to join. (48 stitches)
5. *Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join.
Repeat from * for:
Age 2 - 5: 3 more rows for age 2; 4 more rows for age 3; 5 more rows for age 4 and 5;
fasten off for a contrasting color band.
Age 5 - 8: 6 more rows, fasten off for a contrasting color band.
Age 8 - 12: 7 more rows, fasten off for a contrasting color band.
Adult: 8 more rows, fasten off for a contrasting color band.
6. BOTTOM BAND:
Attach contrasting color yarn in the fasten off stitch, *chain 1, single crochet in each stitch
around, slip stitch to join. Turn, repeat from * and fasten off. Weave all yarn ends into the
finished work.
