MATERIALS:
WW YARN worked 2 strands (260 yds) OR
1 STRAND CHUNKY YARN (130 yds)
6.5 MM HOOK
BAG HANDLES,
YARN NEEDLE,
BUTTON
Optional: Plastic Canvas for inside the purse if you want a rigid purse.

INSTRUCTIONS: Gauge: 2 stitches and 2 rows = 1 sq. inch
My focus in designing is to produce a pattern in the most simple manner, so please don't be disappointed at how easy my patterns are.

1. Work a chain that is as WIDE as you would like your
purse to be in multiples of 2.
(I chained 20 for a 10 inch wide bag.)
Single crochet in the 2nd stitch from the hook, and
each stitch of the chain.
then working down the other side of the chain, single
crochet in each stitch across the row,
slip stitch to join in the first single crochet.
(40 stitches around for my bag.)

2. Chain 1, single crochet in the same stitch, single crochet in
each stitch around, slip stitch to join in the first sc. (40)
3. Repeat step 2 until the purse is as tall as you would
like it to be.
4. WORK THE FLAP: Chain 1, single crochet across
the row, stopping I/2 the distance around. (Working
only the flap section.)
Mark the center stitch of the row.
5. (Chain 2 and turn. Double crochet up to the center stitch.
IN THE CENTER STITCH: work 2 puff stitches
with a chain 1 separating them (all in the same stitch):
To make a Puff stitch:
*Insert hook into the stitch, pull up a loop, repeat from * 4
more times, pick
up the yarn and pull through all the loops on the hook, (puff
stitch formed), chain 1,
Repeat from the first * in the same stitch (2 puff stitches
formed in the same stitch),
then continue dc across the row.)

6. Work a total of 4 or 5 rows for the flap:
follow instructions in step 5.
Fasten off.
Attach yarn on either end of the flap, then
chain 1, single crochet in each stitch
around the flap.
Fasten off. Weave yarn ends into the finished work.
6. Sew a button on the front, and use
the chain 1 of the center shell as the
buttonhole.
Attach bag handles.
Optional: Add tassels.
Optional: Fold plastic canvas to fit
inside the purse.
