Worsted weight yarn, worked 2 strands… (140 YDS)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Gauge:

2.5 stitches long, and 3 rows high = 1 sq. Inch

Worked flat, bottom up.

5 - 12 years: cast on 48 stitches (requires 145 yards)

1. Work in ribbing (knit 2,purl 2) for 4 rows.

2. Knit the next 2 rows.

3. Purl the first 3 stitches,*knit the next stitch, purl the next 3 stitches,

repeat from * across the row, ending

with a knit stitch.

4. Purl the first stitch, *knit the next 3 stitches,purl the next stitch,

repeat from * across the row.

5. Repeat step 3.

6, Knit the next 2 rows.

7. Repeat step 3, 4 and 5.

8. Knit every row for:9 rows

9. Decrease for the top of the hat. Knit 2 stitches together across the row, casting off each stitch after it is worked. Leave a long enough yarn end

to sew the back seam of the hat.

Thread the yarn end into a needle, weave through the top of the hat, pull to close it, and take a few stitches to secure. Then sew the back seam of the hat.
