FREE RAISED LEAF CROCHET HAT PATTERN, 5 YRS TO ADULT, #2856

 

This hat may seem complicated to make, but it is really very easy.  The raised leaf is formed over 3 rows, and the remainder is simple double crochet stitches.

MATERIALS:

Worsted weight yarn (Bernat Premium or Red Heart Super Saver, I used Red Heart Super Saver)

  ( 5-12 yrs: 140 yds, 12-16 yrs: 150 yds,  Adult 160 yds)

6 mm crochet hook (US J10)

Yarn needle

INSTRUCTIONS: Gauge: 3 stitches and 3 rows = 1 sq. Inch

Worked bottom up.

 

1.  5-12 yrs: chain 51, slip stitch to join being careful not to twist the chain.

12-16 yrs: chain 57, slip stitch to join being careful not to twist the chain.

Adult: chain 60, slip stitch to join being careful not to twist the chain.

 

2.  Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join in the 1st sc. (51, 57, 60)


3.  Chain 2 and turn, double crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join in the `1st dc. (51, 57, 60)


4.  Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join in the 1st sc. (51, 57, 60)

5.  Chain 2, double crochet in each stitch around,slip stitch to join. (51,57,60)

 6 Chain 2 (does not count as a stitch),

* back post double crochet in the next 2 stitches,

3 front post double crochet in the next stitch,

repeat from * around, (ending with 3 stitches in the last stitch) slip stitch to join in the top of the

1st back post dc. (Not the chain 2.)  (85, 95, 100)

7.  Chain 2, back post dc in the same stitch, 

and in the next stitch,

*front post double crochet in each of the next 3 stitches,

back post dc in the next 2 stitches,

repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the top of  the first back post dc. (85, 95, 100)

 

8.  Chain 2, back post dc in the same stitch and in the next stitch.

*Decrease the next 3 stitches into one: work a partial front post dc by only pulling

the yarn through only the first 2 loops, do that to all 3 stitches, (4 loops on the hook)

then pull the yarn through all 4 loops on the hook.

Back post double crochet in the next 2 stitches.

Repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the top of the first back post dc. (51, 57, 60)

 

9.  Chain 2, double crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (51, 57, 60)

Repeat from * for: 5-12 yrs: 5 rows;  12-16 yrs: 6 rows;  Adult: 7 rows, 

fasten off.  Leave a long yarn end, thread it into a yarn needle,

weave through the open end of the hat, pull to gather and close the top of the

hat, secure with a few stitches, weave yarn ends into the finished work.
