MATERIALS:

Worsted weight yarn (Red Heart Super Saver or Bernat Premium)

5.5 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.  Multicolor yarn. Chain 5, slip stitch to join and form a ring.

2.  Chain 2, (counts as a dc), make 11 double crochet in the         

    ring, slip stitch to join.

3.  Change to Black yarn. Chain 2 (counts as a dc), double 

     crochet in the same stitch.

   *In the next stitch make 1 dc and 1 long dc, 2 dc in the next 

     stitch, repeat from * around,

slip stitch to join. (24 dc)

4.  Change to multicolor yarn. Chain 2, *2 double crochet in 

     the next stitch, double crochet

in the next stitch, repeat from * around, slip stitch to join. 

(36 dc)

5.  Change to black yarn.  Chain 2, double crochet in the next 

     stitch,

 *1 dc and 1 long dc in the next stitch, double crochet in the 

  next 2 stitches,

repeat from * across the row, slip stitch to join. (48)

6.  Change to multicolor yarn.  

Chain 2, double crochet in the same stitch, chain 2, 

2 double crochet, (corner formed),

*double crochet in the next 11 stitches, in the next stitch 

make 2 sx, ch 2, 2 dc, repeat from * around,

slip stitch to join in the top of the chain 2. (44 dc, 4 corners)

7.  Change to black yarn.  Chain 2, dc in the same stitch, 

     chain 2, 2 dc (corner), *double crochet in the

next 2 stitches, long dc in the next stitch, double crochet in  

the next 4 stitches, long dc in the next stitch,

dc in the next 4 stitches, long dc in the next stitch, dc in the 

next 2 stitches, corner stitch in the next

chain 2 space. Repeat from * around, slip stitch to join in the

 top of the chain 2, fasten off.
