Free Crochet Pattern, 2 scarf summer cardigan, casual cardi


#2213yt - 2 SCARF SUMMER CARDIGAN - small to 4XL
This beginner, super simple cardigan is so easy to crochet!  Simply crochet 2 scarf rectangles, then join in the back and on the sides!  Works up quickly with this 'yarn saving' stitch pattern!

Worsted weight yarn 2 - 3 skeins of Red Heart Super Saver (S:540 yds; 4XL: 1120 yds)

INSTRUCTIONS:  Gauge: 2.5 sc and 3 rows = 1 sq. Inch
Worked sideways. For a longer or shorter sweater, adjust foundation chain.

1. MAKE 2 scarf-like rectangles, , THEN SEAM DOWN THE BACK.




XSmall: (chest 28 - 30 inches, length of sweater 27 inches) chain 137, should measure 54 inches.
Small: (chest 30 - 34 inches, length of sweater 27 inches) chain 137, should measure 54 inches.
    Medium: (chest 34 - 38 inches, length of sweater 27 inches) chain 137, should measure 54 inches.
    Large: (chest 38 - 44 inches, length of sweater 27 inches) chain 137, should measure 54 inches.
    XL: (chest 44 - 50 inches, length of sweater 29 inches) chain 141, should measure 58 inches.
    XXL: (chest 50 - 56 inches, length of sweater 31 inches) chain 145, should measure 62 inches.
    3XL: (chest 56 - 62 inches, length of sweater 33 inches) chain 149, should measure 66 inches.
    4XL: (chest 62 - 68 inches, length of sweater 35 inches) chain 155, should measure 70 inches.

2.  Double crochet in the 4th stitch from the hook, and each stitch of the chain.

3.  Chain 3 and turn, (takes the place of the first dc and ch 1), *skip the next stitch,
double crochet in the next stitch, chain 1, repeat from * ending with a double crochet
in the last stitch.

4.  Chain 3 and turn, (takes the place of the first dc and ch 1), *double crochet in the
next double crochet, chain 1, repeat from * across the row.

5.  Chain 2 and turn, double crochet in each chain 1 space, and each double crochet
across the row.





6.  Repeat steps 3, 4, and 5 for: (Finished sweater size in brackets.)
   XS: 2 more times, fasten off. (28 inches chest.) Should measure 7 inches.
 Small: 3 more times, fasten off. (36 inches s chest.) Should measure 9 inches.
   Medium: 4 more times, fasten off. (44 in. chest, for smaller stop at 3 times) Should measure 11 inches.
   Large: 5 more times, fasten off. (52 inch chest, for smaller stop at 4 times). Should measure 13 inches.
   XL: 6 more times, fasten off. (60 inch chest, for smaller stop at 5 times). Should measure 15 inches.
   XXL: 7 times, fasten off. (68 inch chest, for smaller, stop at 6 times). Should measure 17 inches.
   3XL: 8 times, fasten off. (76 inch chest, for smaller stop at 7 times.) Should measure 19 inches.
   4XL: 9 times, fasten off. ( 84 inch the chest, for smaller stop at 8 times.) Should measure 21 inches.

Fold the 2 rectangles in half to find the shoulders.
Sew the back seam, do not sew up to the neck, stop approx. 3 - 6 inches from the neck.
Sew the side seams, matching the bottom edges on the sides.

Weave all yarn ends into the finished work.
