MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn,  (Size 1 yr: Red: 100 yds,  White: 30 yds.                                                      Smaller sizes use slightly less.)
6 mm straight knitting needles (US 10) )worked flat
Yarn needle

INSTRUCTIONS: Works flat, see photo on the right.  Gauge 3 stitches and 3 rows = 1 sq. in.
Very stretchy finished booties.

This pattern is available for $1.50 on Ravelry, and includes sizes from Newborn up to 1 year.

1.  Work with 2 strands of worsted weight yarn, or chunky yarn,  
     and 6 mm needles.

Newborn to 3 months: cast on 24 stitches


2.  Knit every row for 9 rows
  
3.  Decrease for the top of the foot: Cast off the first
 5 stitches, knit the remaining stitches across the row.


4.  Repeat step 3.

5.  Knit every row for 4 rows


7. Knit 2 stitches together across the row, casting off each 
    stitch after it is worked.  Leave a long yarn end.
    Thread the yarn end into a needle, fold the work in half, 
    and sew the back seam and the front seam.  Weave all 
    yarn ends into the finished work.













CUFFS:
Cast on 8 stitches for newborn, 9 stitches for 6 months, 10 stitches for 1 yr.
Knit every row until the rectangle will wrap around the top of the bootie.
Cast off leaving a long yarn end.
Fold the work in half, and sew to form a tube.
Place the cuff on top of the bootie, and sew all around.






Pass several strands of yarn around the ankle, tie on the side.  
Optional: Sew a button on the side.
