MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn, worked 2 strands, (1 skein of Red Heart Super Saver, divided into 2 balls.
                   Roll off entire skein into 1 large ball, then roll a 
                   new ball until the 2 balls are of equal size.)
9 mm crochet hook
Yarn needle

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.  Working with 2 strands of yarn, 
    held as though they were 
    one, and a 9 mm hook:
    5 - 12 yrs: Chain 18;  
    12 - 16 yrs: Chain 22;   
    Adult: Chain  25.
2.  Single crochet in the 2nd stitch 
     from the hook, and each 
     stitch of the chain.

3.  Chain 1 and turn, working in the back side of the stitch 
    only, single crochet in each stitch across the row.

4.  Repeat step 3 until the work measures:
    Age 5 - 12: 20 inches;   age 12 - 16: 22 inches;   Adult: 24 
    inches.

5.  Fold the work to bring the foundation row and the last row 
    completed together, and slip stitch to form a tube.  Fasten 
    with an 18 inch long yarn end, 
    thread it into a yarn
needle, and weave through one 
open end of the tube. 
 Pull to gather up and close the 
top of the hat. Take several 
stitches to secure, and weave  
yarn ends into the finished work.
